Stephen Shaya, M.D., Managing Director of J & B said the following: “J & B has always wanted to be on the cutting edge of understanding ways to improve products and services to the large population we service. iGIANT is providing us valuable insights which can be shared with all of the key stakeholders to better care for patients.”
The “Impact of Gender/Sex on Innovation and Novel Technologies” (iGIANT) program, designed at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, consists of a series of roundtables, national symposia, and innovation prizes to help foster the translation of research into gender/sex-specific design elements. A design element can be a program, product, policy or protocol. The iGIANT program was launched with health roundtables hosted by the Department of Health and Human Services, in July 2015.
Several iGIANT roundtables for the health, transportation, information technology, and retail sectors are now planned across the nation. Roundtable participants include stakeholders from government, industry, academia, professional societies and advocacy groups. The purpose of a roundtable is to establish a common dialog about best practices using gender/sex as a factor and to encourage participants to serve as ambassadors for innovation for their own sectors and others. The iGIANT program can promote and accelerate the development of gender/sex-specific design elements which may improve work performance and the safety and quality of life for men and women.
